After averaging 2 doctor appointments a week for the last 3 weeks, we finally got to the bottom of Katelyn's urinary tract infection. It turns out she has something called ureter reflux. This basically means that things are flowing out of her bladder, up into the ureters and back up into her kidneys. They rate the severity of reflux on a grade 1 through 5. Katelyn's reflux is a grade 2 to 3. This means that it is not serious enough for surgery (thank goodness), but she need to stay on a medication to prevent future UTI's and damage to her kidneys. She will most likely stay on antibiotics until she is 5 years old and will need to be checked yearly to make sure it is staying under control. Most kids grow out of it and are able to come off medicine by the time they are 5 to 6 years old. Hopefully this will be the case with Katelyn and it will never become surgical.
On a happier note, Katelyn is on her way to crawling! She bascially scoots right now and she's getting very quick at it. It won't be long before she gets those arms and knees under her and takes off! I am also very happy that when Katelyn is done playing she attempts to crawl into mommy's lap so I can hold her. She's so sweet!
Well, we keep you updated as we learn more about Katelyn's condition. Thank you all for checking in with us and keeping us in your prayers. We really appreciate your support!

Busy Girl
Tony and I did a count today to see how many states our little world traveler has been in. We came up with 15: Florida, Texas, California, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Washington. And boy is it nice to be home for a while!
On another note, Katelyn has plenty of appointments the next couple weeks. We already had her ultrasound last week, she has a VCGU scheduled on Thursday the 14th, and then she sees a Nephrologist (kidney specialist) on Wednesday the 20th. By then hopefully we'll have some answers and know what is going on with her.
This week she has had a flu bug which she is over now (thank goodness)! But she decided to share her germs with her mom and her friend, Chloe before she got over it. Luckily, I think we both got a milder case of it then she did. We are very glad that has all passed (and so is my washing machine)! Hopefully we can keep this house healthy for a while.
I will be sure to send out more updates once we see the specialist and get some more answers!

Ohio Trip
Well, we are back from Ohio and all in one piece. We had a lot of ups and downs on this trip! While it was awesome to be back with familiar faces and we enjoyed all our visiting, Katelyn definitely saw her share of the hospital. We also came home to some bad and expensive news.
Our first episode began when Katelyn and her friend Chloe got locked in the car together. There were no windows cracked, no AC running and the temperature was over 90 degrees. All of our phones, spare keys, everything was locked in the car. Luckily we were close to the hotel lobby and the on base police, fire department and ambulance showed up in no time! The girls were locked in there together for about 15 minutes before the response team was able to unlock the car. Both of them had to be checked out in the ambulance truck afterwards. Besides being drenched in sweat and a little scared, they were both in good health and recovered just fine from the incident.
A couple of days later, Katelyn started sleeping more and more. The next day I noticed she was a little warm and then she promptly threw-up on me. Tony and I got a temprature reading and it was 103.9. Needless to say, we ran straight to the ER. They did a series of tests on her that involved blood draws, catheders, and something that looked like a torture device in order to get chest x-rays. She was not a happy baby. They discovered that she had a urinary tract infection and they gave her a very painful shot of antibiotics in her leg. She has continued a medication since then and she will be checked out at her normal peditrician today. She is going to need more tests done on her kidneys to make sure that is not what caused the infection.
And disaster number three occured once we got home. We found out there was a huge storm that passed over us Thursday and one of our surge protectors failed. It completely fried our desktop computer, cable modem, wireless router and sound system (they were all pluged in the same outlet). It's been a slow process of recovering things and working with the insurance company. Tony and I will be glad when this is all over with!
Despite all the things that went wrong, it was great to visit all our old friends! Thank you to all of you who had us over to your home, fed us and took time out of your day to visit! We miss all of our friends and our old church in Ohio. We hope to be back again soon! I will be posting some pictures of our Ohio trip real soon. We actually didn't take any pictures because we are slackers, but we have some wonderful friends who did! Thanks Ruth Anne and Shelby = ).

Doctor's Appointment
Today Katelyn had her 6 month old check-up. She was 15 lbs. 8 oz. and 25 inches long. The doctor saw the little rolls on Katelyn's legs and said she definitely looks like a healthy baby! She has accomplished all of her 6 month old milestones and she is progressing right on track. We are so grateful that she is a happy, healthy little girl.
She also had a few more shots today which she tolerated very well. Poor Tony always has to be the bad guy to hold her still, because her mom doesn't do well with needles. Luckily she won't be in for any more shots until she's 1 year old! ... And that's the latest news we have about her appointment.
We also have a couple pictures of our little peanut for you all to enjoy! Not sure when I'll be able to send out another update as we will be in Ohio the next 3 weeks. Hope to be back on real soon!

Memorial Day
Yesterday Katelyn celebrated her first Memorial Day! We spent the afternoon at the beach with friends and a couple other little ones. She mostly stayed under the umbrella out of the sun, but she got to check out the water and feel a little bit of the sand while we were there. She had a lot of fun watching the other babies and enjoying new sights and sounds. When we got in the car to go home, she feel asleep before we even got out of the parking lot!
This week we are getting ready for all our upcoming trips. Tony and I both leave on Friday, May 30th. I will be flying to Colorado, meeting my parents there, and driving back to California at the end of the week. Tony is getting ready to go Germany to help conduct a test over there. It will be sad to be apart again, but I know Tony is doing some really exciting stuff! It will be an excellent opportunity for him to go over there and get some experience for his job.
We'll keep you updated from California as we make the grandparent tour again! Talk to you all soon!

Mother's Day
This year was our first Mother's Day with the little one and it was wonderful! Tony and Katelyn really gave me the royal treatment. On Saturday, Dan and Tony watched the two little ones while Ruth Anne and I went to go get a massage and pedicure. It was so relaxing and fun for us! (Even though we called the boys like four times to make sure everyone was okay!) Then on Sunday we got to all go out to eat together and spent our afternoon shopping. Here's a picture of the two of us on Sunday.
Also, I took Katelyn to the doctor today and wow has she grown! She went from the 25th percentile to the 75th percentile in height! She is 24.8 inches long and she weighs 13 lbs. 13 oz. She is also excelling expectations developmentally. She has already accomplished some of the milestones for 6 month olds! Guess she is following in the footsteps of her smart daddy! Each new stage just becomes more and more fun for us and we are having a great time watching her grow!

World Traveler
Hello again! We have been busy, busy, busy! After our company and a few trips of our own, we are finally settled in again... at least until the end of this month. Katelyn has become quite the traveler these days. She has officially been in Florida, Texas, California, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. We will be adding Colorado and Ohio to the list over the next couple months! On top of that, she will be turning 4 months old in just 4 more days. Wow, time really does fly!
So our latest news is that Tony is going to be flying to Germany on May 30th. He will be there conducting a test for NATO for 3 weeks. This is why Katelyn and I will be in Colorado and California over that time. Even though Katelyn's grandparents live far away, they are definitely getting lots of time with her! It's the one blessing we get from Tony being so busy right now. Then of course we will all be driving to Ohio together the last two weeks of July as Tony completes more training. It will be so exciting to see some old friends and neighbors while we're there!
I guess that's the latest updates I have for now. It's never a dull moment in the Illig household! Looking forward to seeing many of you again soon! And I'll try to be better about updating this thing = ).
