After averaging 2 doctor appointments a week for the last 3 weeks, we finally got to the bottom of Katelyn's urinary tract infection. It turns out she has something called ureter reflux. This basically means that things are flowing out of her bladder, up into the ureters and back up into her kidneys. They rate the severity of reflux on a grade 1 through 5. Katelyn's reflux is a grade 2 to 3. This means that it is not serious enough for surgery (thank goodness), but she need to stay on a medication to prevent future UTI's and damage to her kidneys. She will most likely stay on antibiotics until she is 5 years old and will need to be checked yearly to make sure it is staying under control. Most kids grow out of it and are able to come off medicine by the time they are 5 to 6 years old. Hopefully this will be the case with Katelyn and it will never become surgical.
On a happier note, Katelyn is on her way to crawling! She bascially scoots right now and she's getting very quick at it. It won't be long before she gets those arms and knees under her and takes off! I am also very happy that when Katelyn is done playing she attempts to crawl into mommy's lap so I can hold her. She's so sweet!
Well, we keep you updated as we learn more about Katelyn's condition. Thank you all for checking in with us and keeping us in your prayers. We really appreciate your support!
